Heart & Soul Backgrounder

The Heart & Soul Singers have been singing in and around the Sudbury area since 1995 in venues as familiar as churches and concert halls, and a few more unusual like a country fair, a regimental ball, and even as auctioned-off entertainment. Whether accompanied by a number of excellent local musicians, or singing a cappella, Heart & Soul offers something which every musical taste can enjoy, and with ... at least a surprise or two. Their repertoire ranges from sacred to secular, classical to contemporary, jazz to rock, doo wop to folk. Tight harmonies and a contageous sense of fun are their trademarks.

“Having rotating conductor duties means that everyone enters into the discussion and debate around selection and interpretation” said member Carolyn Djaferis. Wes Hubert puts it a bit differently. “When you get a number of strong-willed, somewhat eccentric and always verbal musicians together, decision making by consensus can be a nightmare.”

“We thrive on music, but also want to give back to the Sudbury community that has been so generous to us. We have been thrilled to raise funds in support of literacy, outreach programs for offenders and their families, afterschool programs for children and teens, emergency response volunteers, Genevra House, The Samaritan Centre and many more.” adds Carolyn.

The members of Heart & Soul are: sopranos Sonya Pidutti, Sue Bast and Marcia Lautenbach, altos Karen Hubert, Carolyn Djaferis and Hannele Laari White (who also does double duty as accompanist), tenors Art Bast, Jim Webb and Gerry Geiger, and basses Bill Lautenbach, Wes Hubert and Ted Djaferis.
